New on set footage from Sly Stallone’s The Expendables

Action-fest The Expendables, penned and directed by Sylvester Stallone, is still filming right now and will be released in 2010. This exclusive snippet of on-set footage has just appeared online. Check it out after the break…

Thanks to an official production blog, we get an admittedly short but interesting look at some exclusive on-set footage from the film featuring the man himself at work, Sly.

The plot revolves around a team of mercenaries called “The Expendables” who head to South America on a mission to “stop” a dictator who has caused destruction for the last 20 years. Expect lots of explosions, violence and a strong resolve to not take itself too seriously.

The cast list reads like an A-Z directory of action film stars, including and not limited to (so far): Sylvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Danny Trejo and a cameo appearance from Arnold Schwarzenegger. Signed on as the female leads are Charisma Carpenter and Brittany Murphy. Among the big names to turn down roles (or conveniently drop out for scheduling reasons) in the film are Forest Whitaker, Kurt Russell, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Wesley Snipes. A role that is rumoured to be pivotal, Mr. Church, has yet to be cast. Bruce Willis is the latest name to be associated with that character.

The Expendables will be released on or around April 23, 2010.
