Fascinating new District 9 Trailer now online!

Making it’s worldwide debut this morning is a fascinating new trailer for the Peter Jackson produced Sci-Fi film “District 9″. Details about the film and the trailer after the break…

A beautifully photo-realistic vision of an Alien spaceship somewhere in South Africa.

Produced by Peter Jackson and Directed by Neil Blomkamp, very little was known about “District 9″ other than it was a Sci-Fi film supposedly based on a short film previously produced by Blomkamp called “Alive in Joburg”. We now know that the film will be about aliens dubbed “Non-Humans” who land in South Africa and become slaves/migrant workers to a large corporation named MNU. Forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth, they find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology and becomes involved in a plight of some kind to assist them.

Judging by this teaser trailer, it’s confirmed that the film will look like a Pseudo-documentary, which I personally love the idea of, but is no doubt going to cause some controversy once the “shaky camera” brigade crawl out of the woodwork to complain. You will also notice that the face of a Non-Human has been blurred - again, a technique which is guaranteed to stir up some heated debate as to it’s necessity amongst those ignorant to the fact that it’s necessary because that happens to be the Director’s vision.

Overall, we are much more excited for this film than we imagined - seemingly rich with social commentary, overseen by Peter Jackson and interestingly stylized, “District 9″ can’t come soon enough for us. It will hit screens in North America on August 14th, 2009.
