Each week we will continue to bring you details of the best new releases on Blu-ray. This is a fantastic week for Blu-lovers, with multiple editions of ‘T2′, ‘True Blood’ Season One, ‘Batman’, ‘The Machinist’ and much more after the break…
This week probably stacks up as the best for new releases this year - especially considering the range of different titles and genres available - so there should be something for everyone in this edition. As always, check out our “pick of the week” and links to all of the new releases below.
First up, we have a spectacular 6 disc “Terminator 2 Limited Edition Complete Collector’s Set in an Endoskull”, which is by far the most extravagant and innovative release on this format so far. It contains every version of the film you could want, and more special features than you can shake a T-1000 at. And the Endoskull looks FANTASTIC. Bear in mind, this is a limited release and no one is sure whether further copies of the set will be issued, so you might want to snap one up quickly. There is also a far more affordable 2-disc “Skynet” edition of the film, which most of us will most likely be more in the market for.
Season One of HBO’s Vampire hit “True Blood” is also a very tempting package. Not only is the picture transfer absolutely fangtastic (sorry), but it is also bundled with a whole bunch of nice special features. If you haven’t yet watched the show, this is the ideal time to do so before Season Two starts in June.
Rounding out the rest of the rest of this weeks releases we have more of the Jack-Bauer-Power-Hour with “24″ Season 7, the 20th Anniversary edition of Tim Burton’s “Batman”, Disney’s “A Bug’s Life”, Jude Law in “Enemy At The Gates”, Ben Affleck in underrated thriller “Changing Lanes”, Robert Redford and Tom Cruise together in “Lions For Lambs” and separately in “Valkyrie” and the excellent “Spy Game”, 3-D slasher flick (bundled with 4 pairs of glasses) “My Bloody Valentine 3-D”, hi-jinx with Kevin James in “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” and last, but certainly not least, Christian Bale in the mesmerizing “The Machinist” which is a performance that you should reference every time you might question why Christian is considered one of the great actors of his generation.
Our pick of the week is another tie. We promise that next week we’ll choose just one title to recommend to you, but we thought we’d offer you three vastly different picks this time: One novelty (the incredible Terminator 2 Ltd. Edition 6 disc Set in an Endoskull), One Must-See-TV show (True Blood Season One) and one Art House-Indie flick (”The Machinist).
