Subscription based satellite TV provider Sky will air Steven Spielberg’s “Band of Brothers” follow on “The Pacific” in the spring of 2010. The program will run on Sky Movies and Sky Movies HD in an advert-free format. HBO will air the series at the same time in the North America.
The $200 million 10-part series, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, follows the journeys of three US marines – Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge and John Basilone – during second world war Pacific-area campaigns against Japanese forces, from Guadalcanal to Iwo Jima and home after VJ Day in August 1945. The series features no big name stars, and instead used it’s feature-film budget to push the boundaries on special effects and ware scenes - which Tom Hanks has commented are some of the most realistic ever - much as was the case with the Band of Brothers series which also featured mostly unknown actors at the time it was made.
