Paramount Pictures released the first official trailer for Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island” today, and it’s a must see! Check out our embedded video below.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson and Max von Sydow.

Based on the best selling novel by Dennis Lehane and from Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, “Shutter Island” is the story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island’s fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.

This is the third high profile adaption of Lehane’s work, with the incredible Oscar winning “Mystic River” with Sean Penn and directed by Clint Eastwood followed by the equally impressive “Gone Baby Gone” starring Casey Affleck, directed by his brother Ben Affleck.

I think that this is one of the most compelling trailers released so far this year. It has moments of rich, vibrant, atmospheric and visually stunning cinematography, and reveals just enough of the mysterious and intriguing plot without giving too much away. Obviously, those of you who have read the book, including myself, pretty much know what to expect - but I do think that this is a story that will benefit greatly from a film adaption, as it has plenty of room to be explored with and expanded on. Who else would you trust completely to do that other than Martin Scorsese? Let us know what you thought of the trailer in the comments!

The film will be released in North America on October 2nd, and October 9th in The UK.
