Next up in the remake lucky dip stakes? ‘The Bride Of Frankenstein’. Universal are reported to be very keen on making a modern update. This would be separate to the ‘Frankenstein’ project that Guillermo del Toro is rumored to have on the back-burner. More details after the jump.

Our intro to this post, above, may be a little unfair because technically, Universal have had one eye on a “The Bride Of Frankenstein” remake for quite some time.
Writing duo Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini were the most recent filmmakers who had a project under development, but that was scrapped some time ago. It is now being reported that “The Illusionist” writer/director Neil Burger and Dick Wittenborn are attached, with Burger to direct and Wittenborn to pen a screenplay.
Neil Burger is actually a very underrated talent, having worked most notably on the excellent “The Illusionist” with Edward Norton, Jessica Biel and Paul Giamatti, but his other two films “Interview with the Assassin” a faux-docu about the JFK assassination and “The Lucky Ones” about soldiers returning from duty in Iraq, are both also excellent and worth searching out. Dick Wittenborn wrote the screenplay for “The Lucky Ones”, which Burger directed.
Do we want to keep seeing classic films remade? No - at least the majority of us don’t. But if this is indeed going to happen, then I feel better about it knowing that a seemingly capable and intriguing filmmaker like Neil Burger is behind the wheel. The same logic also applies to “Frankenstein” - we know that a new version is going to get made sooner or later - but I feel a lot better about it knowing that the man likely to take the helm is Guillermo del Toro. I’d even go as far to say that I’m excited at the prospect of a del Toro Frankenstein.
What do you think?
